NewNet Direct Cisco 24 Meg Broadband Router

Windows Installation

Before you start, please take a few minutes to check the following:

A. Have youreceived notification that your Broadband line is ready?
All NewNet customers will be notified via the email address provided at time of order

B. Does your Routerpack contain the following items?

  1. Cisco Wireless - G Router
  2. Microfilter (1 supplied)
  3. Grey Ethernet cable - used to connect the router to your computer
  4. Grey line cord - used to connect the router to a microfilter
  5. Mains Power Adapter
Please note: Plugs on items 3 and 4 above are different and will only fit the appropriate socket. Do not attempt to force plugs into sockets.

STEP 1 - Connecting your Broadband Router

Ensure your computer is turned on and fully functional

Close all applications before connecting your router

1.1 Disconnect your phone line from the wall socket

1.2 Plug the Microfilter into your telephone wall socket

1.3 Re-connect your telephone cable into the socket on the Microfilter clearly marked ‘Phone’
 
Note: you will need to plug a Microfilter into every telephone wall socket that has analogue devices connected to it, such as telephones, faxes, modems and some digital television services before proceeding to the next step.

1.4 Next connect one end of the Grey line cable into the black socket of the Microfilter labeled ‘DSL’

1.5 Connect the other end of the Grey line cable into socket labeled ‘Line’ which can be found at the back of the Broadband Router


1.6 Plug one end of the Grey Ethernet cable into Ethernet “Port 1” located at the back of the Broadband Router .
 
1.7 Connect the other end into the Ethernet Port in the back of your computer
 

1.8 Plug the Mains Power Adapter into the back of your router (socket marked “Power”), then plug the other end of the Mains Power Adapter into the nearest mains socket.

1.9 Wait until the DSL Light on the front of the router stops flashing and goes solid green. Once this happens your Broadband Router has been successfully set-up

STEP 2 - Configuring your computer

To connect to NewNet using your Broadband Router you first need to activate the connection.

2.1 To do this please select your Operating System from below and follow the instructions:

  • Windows 2000/Windows XP Classic Interface
    - Click Start, then Settings, then Control Panel.
    - Double-click Network and dial-up Connections
    - Right click on the “Local Area Connection” icon, and select “Properties” from the drop down menu. Continue to Step 2.2
  • Windows XP
    - Click Start, then Control Panel.
    - Double-click Network Connections
    - Right click on the “Local Area Connection” icon, and then select “Properties” from the drop down menu. Continue to Step 2.2

2.2 The “Local Area Connection Properties” window will now open. Left mouse click (once) on the “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” listing and then click “Properties”.

2.3 Once the “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties” window has opened you need to select “Obtain an IP address automatically” and select “Obtain DNS server address automatically”.

Then click “OK”

2.4 You will then return to the “Local Area Connection Properties” window, click “OK” on this window to save all your settings

NewNet always advises that users install and maintain Anti-Virus and Firewall applications on systems connected to the Internet. You should ensure that these applications are now enabled.
