NewNet Dial-up
In the unlikely event that your NewNet Broadband
connection should malfunction you can use backup dial-up
access to ensure you stay connected to the Internet
whilst we resolve any issues.
To use NewNet dial-up, you must have an operational modem
For an external modem, turn on the power and connect
it to the telephone line and to the computer.
For an internal modem, make sure it is connected
to the telephone line.
Task 1 - Set up the connection
with the Internet Connection Wizard.
1. Click Start,
then select Run
2. In the box
that appears, type inetwiz and click
OK. The installer should open automatically.
3. When the Internet
Connection Wizard window appears, select Connect
using my phone line. Click Next to continue.
4. In the screen
labeled "Step 1 of 3: Internet Account Connection
Information"
Enter 0845 in the Area Code field
Enter 0800 022 in the Telephone number
field
click Next to proceed.
5. At the next
screen, "Step 2 of 3: Internet Account Logon
Information"
Enter adslbackup in the User name field
Enter assistance in the Password field
Click Next to continue.
6. The next screen
is labeled "Step 3 of 3: Configuring Your Computer".
Enter NewNet for the Connection name, and
click Next.
7. If you are
asked to set up your Internet Mail Account click
No and then click 'Next'.
When you see the completion message, click Finish.
Task 2 – Connect to NewNet
Dial-up.
To connect to NewNet dial-up you first need to
activate the connection.
To do this please select your Operating System
from below and follow the instructions
- Windows 98
- Double-click on My Computer.
- Double-click the Dial-Up Networking folder.
- Double-click NewNet (or whatever you named the connection).
- Click Connect.
- Windows ME
- Click Start, then Settings, then Dial-Up Networking.
- Click NewNet (or whatever you named the connection).
- Click Connect.
- Windows NT
- Double-click My Computer.
- Double-click Dial-Up Networking.
- Select NewNet (or whatever you named the connection) from the drop-down menu.
- Click Dial.
- Windows 2000/Windows XP Classic Interface
- Click Start, then Settings, then Networking & Dial-Up Connections.
- Click NewNet (or whatever you named the connection).
- Click Connect.
- Windows XP
- Click Start, then Control Panel.
- Double-click Network Connections
- Double-click NewNet (or whatever you named the connection).
Alternatively, click Start, then Connect to..., then NewNet (or whatever you named the connection).
The first time you connect to NewNet, you will see a Connection Complete message. To prevent this from appearing in the future, place a check in the box next to Do not show this dialog box in the future, then click OK.
Anytime you are connected, the connection icon appears in the Windows system tray.
Task 3 - Disconnect from NewNet.
To disconnect from NewNet, simply right mouse click on the connection icon in the windows system tray, and click Disable in the pop up window.
