26th August 2007 - British driver Mike Meadows headed to the Thruxton circuit, Hampshire for rounds 17 and 18 of the British Formula Three championship this weekend. Meadows, driving for the Newnet Raikkonen Robertson Racing squad ended the weekend with a strong podium finish in race one, which was followed by a premature exit from race two after a collision ended his race.

After qualifying fourth on the grid for the first race of the weekend, Meadows had a trouble free start and retained his fourth position for most of the first race, before a stunning over taking manoeuvre on Frankie Cheng (no.39 Performance Racing) in the final laps promoted Meadows to third place.

Round 18 looked promising for Meadows to gain another podium finish, after a strong qualifying session he started the race from third place on the grid. However a collision with ‘Frankie’ Cheng (#39 Performance Racing) put both cars into the barriers and out of the race. The Safety Car was brought out to allow the two wrecked Dallara’s to a safer position and the two drivers were returned to the paddock, both OK after their experience. The non-finish left Meadows with no points from a promising weekend of racing.

Speaking after the weekend, Meadows commented; “We’ve had a good car here this weekend, it’s a challenging track which is quite bumpy, and so getting the set-up right is crucial. Qualifying went well for both races, the podium in race one was a good result, it’s just a shame we couldn’t have had two podiums, but this is racing and we just have to look ahead to the next round at Croft to get some more points.”

The Lloyds TSB British Formula 3 heads on to the Croft Circuit in Yorkshire for rounds 19 and 20 of the 22 round series.
