Setting up your Linksys WAG200G wireless router
- Connect the Power Supply and plug into your router.
- Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into one of the four ports on the back of the router using the cable provided.
- Plug the other end into your Ethernet port on your computer.
- Connect one end of the DSL cable to your router and the other end into your telephone socket using the ADSL splitter or Micro-filter provided.
Open a Web Browser and enter 192.168.1.1 into the address bar, then hit Go
At the Log in prompt, enter the username and password to login to the router. The default login details are;
Username: admin
Password: admin
On the Basic Setup page enter the following settings, and then click save settings;
Next, select ‘Status’ from the options bar, then select the ‘Gateway’ sub menu. The areas surrounded by the red boxes should exactly match the page you see.
Next Click on the ‘DSL connection’ sub menu. The areas surrounded by the red boxes should exactly match the page you see.
You can now proceed to either enable or disable the Wireless functionality
unless you intend to use wireless, it would be more secure to disable it.
To DISABLE the wireless function
Select the wireless link from the options bar and select the Basic Wireless Settings sub-menu, then select disable under wireless network mode. Click save settings.
To ENABLE the wireless function
Select the wireless link from the options bar and select the Basic Wireless Settings sub-menu, then select mixed under wireless network mode and create an SSID (This is the name of your wireless connection. When you connect your computer to the wireless network, it will normally show this name as an identifier. Ensure enable SSID broadcast is selected and Click save settings.
Select the wireless security sub menu, then select WPA-Personal as the security mode and create a pass phrase. Ensure the pass phrase is alphanumerical and is something not easily identifiable, then click save settings.
NB: Make a note of this pass phrase as you will be required to enter it when you connect your computer to the wireless network for the first time.
