Powerhost Support - Databases

PowerHost provides access to powerful database tools, allowing the creation and management of dynamic database driven websites using MySQL as a back end database. Please note that MySQL datasbases are not available with PowerHost LITE or Plus packages - databases for Webmaster and Reseller packages will incur additional charges.

Clicking on the Databases link in the main menu for the first time will display the MySQL Database Creation Wizard.

The database creation panels provide on-screen information to aid the creation of the database. Enter a name for your new database and a brief description before clicking Next to continue.

You will see confirmation that the database has been created before being invited to add users. Enter a user name, a password (and then confirm the password) before selecting the User role (read, read/write, dba). Click Add User to add this user to the database. Add additional users or click Finish to complete the setup.

How do I manage my database?

Click the Databases link from the main menu. Once a database has been created this will display a panel listing available databases.

Click the 'Add' icon to add another database (will launch the MySQL database wizard). Click the 'Edit' icon to launch the MySQL Database Management panel providing facilities to access the built in phpMyAdmin control panel and to edit, change or delete database users.

To access the php Admin control panel, click the 'Built in phpMyAdmin control panel' link.

How do I add, edit or remove data in my MYSQL database?

Click on the Databases link then the 'Edit' icon to enter the MySQL Database Management panel.

Click the 'Built in phpMyAdmin control panel' link to launch the phpMyAdmin application. Log in with the username and password for your database user. You will now be able to use phpMyAdmin to add, edit or remove tables etc.

How do I enable PHP scripting for my website?

Click the Domain Settings link in the main menu (left) and then click the 'Edit' icon alongside Web Service or click the Web Options Quick Link and then the 'Edit' icon alongside the chosen domain.

Scroll down the page to PHP and click the 'Cross Box' icon to ENABLE PHP service. To complete the confiuration change, click APPLY where prompted at the top of the panel.

How do I add a MYSQL database to my account?

Click the Databases link in the main menu (left). If you have no databases created then you will be taken straight to the MySQL Database Creation Wizard. If you wish to create an additional database, click the 'Add' icon and follow the on-screen instructions.

How do I delete a database?

Click the Databases link in the main menu (left). Click the 'Trash Can' icon next to the database that you wish to delete. Please note: deleting a database will delete all data and records.
