Powerhost Support - DNS Management

PowerHost provides facilities to manage the DNS records associated with your domain and services.

Please note:  PowerHost accounts are created with operational DNS records. Changes to your DNS records may render your service unusable or inaccessible.

Please make sure that you understand the effects of changes before making any alteration to your DNS records. NewNet will not be held liable for any service loss that results from mis-configuration.

To access the DNS record, click the Domain Settings link in the main menu (left) or click the Domain QuickLink from the Control Panel front page. Click the 'Edit' icon alongside DNS configuration to open the DNS configuration panel.

DNS configuration

The DNS configuration panel shows the settings for your domain. These settings will be correct for your package as originally ordered and provisioned.

How do I add a custom DNS MX mail record?

Please note: Before editing the MX records you should DISABLE the PowerHost mail service. This will DELETE any POP mail boxes that you have created.

From the DNS Configuration Panel (above) click the 'Add DNS MX Record' link to open the MX record (Mail) panel.
MX record panel
The name section can be left blank as this is automatically populated with your domain name.

The data field contains the priority of your mail record - this is where you indicate where you would like it to be in the record order.

The last box is where the CNAME is entered for the recipient server. Please note that you CANNOT enter an IP address for MX records. The CNAME needs to be something simple but identifiable to yourself and others i.e mail-backup.domainuser.com

Click Submit to save the changes.

Please note: If you have entered a CNAME which is at your domain, then you will need to add this as a custom CNAME record to point to an IP address before you create the MX record.
