What is LLU NewNet Direct broadband?
LLU stands for Local Loop Unbundling, and describes the means of an independent ISP (such as NewNet) putting their own equipment inside (or ‘unbundling’) a BT telephone exchange. This allows NewNet to provide a direct connection from our equipment in the exchange into a customer’s home or business premises, using the last mile of copper wire that physically connects the home or business premises to that exchange. This direct connection of physical wire is the ‘Local Loop’ and allows customers to connect directly to NewNet’s own high speed core network, removing the need for a connection across the BT core. By utilising the performance and availability of our own network, we can pass on the cost-benefits to customers.
